on monkeys and love

whether or not you’re a valentine’s day fan, you can’t really say you hate love, so here’s a love story for you: when my dad met my mom, he had a sock monkey from his childhood. when my mom met my dad, she had a sock monkey from her childhood. my mom & dad fell in love, and so did the monkeys. now they sit atop the sliding door in my parents’ bedroom, keeping each other in good company.

‘for a long time, years’

i subscribe to miranda july’s omniscient email list for the future (sign up–or spin–here) which emails your future to you every monday and thursday.

last thursday, sept 22, i got this email:
The Future: It will happen on the coming Sunday, between noon and 3:15 pm. It won’t change your life forever, but for a long time, years.
on said sunday, within the hours listed, i found the below photo (with notation on the back):

struck with the blurry but clear joy on the man’s face, paired with the obtuse phrase on the back, i purchased the photo for 82cents and returned home. i hadn’t thought of the email at the time, but when i rediscovered it saved in my inbox i thought to myself “hmm…”
