It’s that time of year again. That’s right: the end of it! But also, the time where I go back to the beginning of the year and evaluate how my annual goal setting turned out throughout it. (I’ve done this before. See: 2013, 2014.)
Allison and I changed it up in 2015 by meeting quarterly to check-in on our goals. I found this beneficial to not only remain on track, but also to reset goals that had already been achieved, or that had become passé.
As always, some were accomplished and some were not, but here’s a round up of (mostly) what worked.
I get hired full-time with benefits.
After a year of contract work, I was ready for a shift in gears. Through a somewhat unbelievable turn of events, I managed to meet this goal in the first quarter of the year. Allowing me to add on a new goal:
I study for and pass the Claritas Investment Certificate exam.
I research three programs in editing.
I didn’t research three, but I did enroll in one! I’ll be working toward the UC Berkeley Extension Professional Sequence in Editing class come February.
I go on three hikes.
Surpassed this goal by one: a hike up Mount Diablo on MLK Jr. Day, Cataract Falls Trail in Mount Tam on Good Friday, around the Cache Creek area over Memorial Day, and up Bishop Peak in San Luis Obispo in August.
I run three miles three times per week.
This goal morphed over the course of the year. I kept it for the first quarter, then moved it into the Global Corporate Challenge through work, and then more or less slacked off. Whoops. I did complete two trail runs, though: Dirty Secret Trail Run in May with Lindsey and Mt. Tam Trail Run in November with Timothy.
I am conscious of my posture and check in with myself about it at least 3 times per day.
This goal failure brought to you by the computer hunch.
I streamline my wardrobe by getting rid of clothing and making conscious purchases.
Inspired by the idea of a capsule wardrobe (though I’m not ready for quite that extreme), I’ve made a big dent in my overstuffed closet, unloading piles of clothes to Goodwill. At the same time, I’ve moved toward a more simplified black/white wardrobe, making outfit compiling (not to mention packing!) so much simpler. And to the lady at Freestyle affectionately referring to me as “stripey,” due to my penchant for purchasing black & white striped clothing.
“Stripes match stripes” is my new fashion mantra.
Get the Bourbon Babes Instagram over 10,000 followers.
We entered January 2015 with just over 1,000 followers, so I was pretty happy when we passed the 10K mark early in November! And we closed the year at 11.8K and counting.
I read at least 18 books.
Surpassed this by 8, in large part thanks to getting back into graphic novels again, which make for speedy reads. Here’s the rundown:
I maintain my monthly get togethers with girlfriends.
and Bourbon Babes.
Give zero fucks.
Despite some unfortunate bumps along the way, such as getting mugged, I managed to maintain this to the degree it should be maintained.
UNEXPECTED LIFE GOALS:
Sang Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” at karaoke with my brother.
Saw Aziz Ansari perform live.
Dressed up as a pterodactyl.
Designed art for my best friend’s wedding invitation.
Had one of our BB posts reposted by Maker’s Mark!
2016’s goals aren’t set yet, but believe me — they will be.
